TEAM CarbonCopyPRO Baja 1000 Pre-Race Rant!

Everyone knows the entrepreneurial iconoclast Richard Branson... (Stop reading and click here if you don't know who Richard Branson is and click on this link... http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Richard_Branson)

Mr Branson's success (in his own words in a recent Forbes magazine article) is a result of his guts and affinity for calculated risk and pushing the limits... literally. I am not talking about irresponsible actions or guesswork, I am talking about the kind of risk you take when you know what the dangers are, you have all of the facts and information straight, you GRIT your teeth and follow your GUT! Having the guts to do the things that make most cringe is a common denominator that all successful entrepreneurs face.

On Nov 19, Mike Dillard (Author MagneticSponsoring. com, Founder betternetworker.com) and I will be racing in the 2008 Baja 1000, one of the most dangerous and challenging off-road endurance races in the world. (Don't worry mom, more spectators get run over and get hurt than race-car drivers:)

This race is notorious for booby traps set by the spectators who love to see a good crash.

Spectators are know for sabotaging or booby- trapping the course by digging holes, blocking river flow, or burying obstacles. Racers are warned to beware of large crowds of spectators in remote parts of the course since it may indicate hidden traps or obstacle changes. Awareness of booby traps and course alterations are often part of race-day strategy and convey an advantage to the best prepared teams -- nonetheless given the danger the traps pose, it is customary for competitors to quickly communicate course hazards to other competitors through on-board radio communications and radio relay...." So why would two of the industries most successful internet marketers subject themselves to the torture and abuse of dirt, fatigue, gut wrenching terrain, mud, cliffs, and booby traps set by crazy Mexican race fans....? Let me break it down for you in terms like this...

Endurance racing is the kind of racing that is more about "finishing the race" then "winning the race!" Less than half of Bajaracers actually finish the race every year. Many crash and wreck their cars on the first day and never get to see the finish line on YouTube!

Endurance racing is our way of getting to know ourselves in ways that we don't yet know. Let me explain... By pushing ourselves to the brink of sheer exhaustion, fighting fatigue, and enduring countless hours of laser focus, we will get to know ourselves in a whole new way.

This is not something that can be simulated or prepared for. When race-day comes and the adrenaline starts flowing, we will attempt to push ourselves to a level unlike anything we have ever experienced.

Mike and I share a common trait. Both of us are have BULLDOG like sense of determination and pride ourselves in finishing and following through on our commitments (thus our success as entrepreneurs). While most people loose interest, become disenchanted, or simply give up on their goals and ambitions letting their "feelings" take over, we grin and bear when the going gets tough.

Guys, NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU START! Its what you FINISH that gets you street cred!

Learn this one thing: determination and patients will make you more money than ANY other skill or trait. They have for Mike and I and they will for you. While the masses are succumbing to their feelings and inabilities to "follow-through" we tough it out and win every time.

We have invested in the BEST of the BEST of training and every other resource we need to finish (and potentially place in our class) in the race.

Our car is worth about $130K (this is more than Mike Aston Marton!) and has the best components available. We have the best training and support and we have taken every measure possible to prepared ourselves for the race. But having the best equipment and training will still only get you so far in a race like this.

Sheer guts and grit, determination and focus on race day are all that matter.

Even though comparing racing the Baja to success as an online entrepreneur makes for a relatively cheesy metaphor at best, I think you get the point I am trying to make here.

Figure out who you are and what you want out of life and focus like a laser on that. Don't listen to the pundits or naysayers. Don't give attention or energy to ANYONE or ANYTHING that has the potential to distract you from finishing the race you have started.

The entrepreneurial race is an endurance race, not a drag race. Most internet marketers approach their business with the latter and aside from their spectacular "starts" their success is nothing more than a flash in the pan. They are here today with all kinds of big talk, and gone into oblivion tomorrow.

Buckle in as tight as you can, grit your teeth, and hang on for the ride of your life.

Figure out who you are, what you want, and don't let ANYONE convince you to settle for less. Your goals and dreams are all that you should be focused on. Figure out a way to provide more value and service to your prospects and members and with the right intentions it is IMPOSSIBLE to fail.

Wish us safety and luck on Nov 19, we will certainly need it:)
